Why the more radical off-shoot of Trump's movement is the real danger in America.
The “Make America Great Again (MAGA)” movement may not be defined by a specific set of policies, instead driven by personality and populism, but it’s defining traits have remained relatively unchanged since 2016.
At its core, MAGA is a cult of personality, built around a failed businessman and con artist who tapped into the rage of disgruntled white people. Policy is less important than loyalty to Trump.
A more extreme version of MAGA, wholly defined by aggressive policy and centralization of power, began to splinter in 2020 after Trump’s defeat, and in the coming years poses a much greater threat to democracy.
