I've seen memos from FOUR different agencies this evening that order an immediate BLACKOUT of all government data, reports and information.
This will have immediate life and death consequences and must NOT be allowed to stand.
The importance of data continuity in climate science (and I imagine most sciences) cannot be overstated.
Governments and organizations rely on robust climate data to inform policies on emissions reductions, disaster preparedness, and resource management. Gaps in data continuity could lead to less informed or less effective decision-making.
Continuous data allows scientists to monitor the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, heatwaves, and floods. Understanding changes in these events is crucial for risk assessment and mitigation.
Climate systems are interconnected, involving the atmosphere, oceans, land, and biosphere. Continuous data helps track interactions between these systems over time, providing a comprehensive understanding of climate dynamics.
I have found myself completely stunned, and I honestly didn't think that was possible with these people.
This is where our public servants must stop in.
DO NOT COMPLY.
And in yesterday’s New York Times… shades of the good ol’ days in the Soviet Union… brought to you by 🍊🤡 & Stephen Miller:
